Regular Dental Checkups in Lake Mary

Here at SofTouch Dental, your smile is our top priority! To keep your teeth and gums healthy, our dentist recommends you schedule a regular dental checkup every six months. This will allow our team of trained dental professionals to evaluate your dental health and treat unseen any unseen concerns before they become a bigger (and more painful) problems.

Our office offers Saturday appointments and flexible family scheduling to treat you and your family at your convenience.

Here’s what you can expect at your next regular checkup:

Full Examination

We will thoroughly examine your teeth, gums and other tissues to assess your current oral health. Our dentist will check for loose, damaged or decayed teeth, as well as loose dental work such as crowns and bridges. We will also check for signs of gum disease and bite issues.

DIAGNOdent Cavity Detection

Our office uses the DIAGNOdent cavity detection system to check the surfaces of your teeth for cavities. This will allow us to find and treat cavities, especially in those hard-to-reach places that are difficult to see with the naked eye.

Digital X-rays

Digital X-rays will give our dentist a complete view of your teeth and jaw. Our dentist will check for unseen issues beneath the gum line and recommend treatments as necessary.

Oral Cancer Screening

Early detection is crucial in treating oral cancer. Our oral cancer screening will involve both a visual and physical exam. We will check your mouth, lips, tongue, cheeks, palate, neck and tonsils for signs and symptoms of cancer. Our dentist will review your results and recommend further testing if necessary.

Professional Cleaning

Good daily oral hygiene is important, but a professional cleaning will go the extra mile to protect your dental health. Our dentist will check the cleanliness of your teeth and gums. The cleaning will remove any built-up plaque and tartar from those hard-to-reach places and polish your teeth. Our dentist will also review any recommended brushing and flossing techniques to maintain your dental health.

How often should I go to the dentist?

The American Dental Association recommends you visit our office every six months to ensure optimal oral health. However, depending on your dental health and history, you may require more frequent visits. If you have other health conditions such as diabetes, cancer or some autoimmune diseases, you may be susceptible to tooth and gum issues. Pregnant women are also at higher risk for gum disease and tooth decay. Be sure to consult with our dentist about checkups and follow-ups.

Are professional cleanings necessary?

Yes! Regular professional cleaning will remove built-up plaque and tartar and leave you with fresher breath. Our dental hygienist can also remove most of the stains that dull and discolor your teeth, restoring a brighter, whiter smile.
